Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area

Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area offers beautiful coastal scenery, low-key bush camping spots, popular boating and fishing areas in Pumicestone Passage, excellent birdwatching opportunities and spring wildflowers. Bribie Island, about an hour's drive from Brisbane is a treasure trove of plants and animals.

The island is fringed by sandy beaches and sand dunes. Heaths, paperbark wetlands and freshwater creeks and lagoons, along with open forests are home to varied birdlife. Tidal wetlands and waters around Bribie Island are part of Moreton Bay Marine Park. Fish, crabs and prawns breed in nearby Pumicestone Passage and dugong feed on its seagrass communities.

Thousands of shorebirds feed and roost here, making great birdwatching opportunities. Explore the easy Bicentennial walking tracks. Go boating or paddle a kayak around Pumicestone Passage. Try your luck at fishing or crabbing. Picnic at Lighthouse Reach or Lions Park. Pitch a tent at Mission Point, or in one of three other camping areas that are accessible only by four-wheel drive. Camping permits and vehicle access permits are required.

Lime Pocket Camping Area

Lime Pocket camping area is in Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area, 65km north of Brisbane. The camping area is located on the western side of the island, on the shores of Pumicestone Passage, and can be accessed only by boat. You can't drive your vehicle to Lime Pocket. Lime Pocket is the perfect spot to drop anchor, pitch a tent and enjoy some excellent fishing.

On the western side of the island, on the shores of Pumicestone Passage, you'll wake to scenic views of the Glass House Mountains. At night, get cosy by the camp fire and be lulled to sleep by the sounds of water lapping. Hook a flathead, whiting, tailor or mangrove jack on your line and enjoy fresh fish for dinner. Watch for dugongs feeding in the seagrass offshore and spot shorebirds feasting along the tide line. Look for birds of prey, including sea eagles, and brahminy and whistling kites, along the coastline.

Bribie Island Community Arts Centre

Bribie Island Community Arts Centre boasts beautiful galleries offering accessible year-round showcases for local and visiting artists across the mediums, from painting, pottery, sculpture, woodwork, fabric, glassware, metal and jewellery.

Bribie Island Butterfly House

Bribie Island Butterfly House, just over an hour drive North of Brisbane, in Moreton Bay, where you can walk into a wonderland of flying butterflies. Around 700-1000 butterflies are housed in an outdoor sanctuary where they are safe to fly, feed, breed, lay their eggs, and continue their magical life cycle which you can explore up close and personal.

At the butterfly breeding lab viewing area, you can see our volunteers at work, looking after the eggs and chrysalises, and feeding our hungry caterpillars. Wonder through the tunnel and watch a short video capturing the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly, then emerge into the magical, flower-filled butterfly sanctuary where you can see hundreds of butterflies flying on any day.

Pacific Harbour Golf & Country Club

Pacific Harbour is one of Queensland’s premier golf courses located on the beautiful Bribie Island, just a short stroll across the bridge from BIG4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort. Playing at Pacific Harbour Golf Club should be on everyone’s bucket list as the course is a unique, award-winning, ‘island links’ style 18-hole champion course that will challenge both the champion and mesmerise the social player.

Pacific Harbour chose Ross Watson, one of the Asia Pacific region’s most respected golf architects to design the course. His previous work includes Robina Woods, Palm Meadows at the Gold Coast, Royal Sydney Golf Club and The Vines in Perth.
